Galgo
Release Day –
5th
December 2011
This
was the final release from quarantine of galgos. History was
made this day.
I
travelled to the kennels with Sandy and for us it was a very
good and problem free journey. Not everyone was as lucky as
we were, but nothing could spoil this special day. Such
enthusiasm by every person present made a wonderful day even
better. The sun shone, the temperature was low but it seemed
that no-one minded waiting in the cold for everyone else to
arrive for the big event to start. Of course the wait was
eased by the lovely refreshments provided by Paula and Steve
to whom we were all grateful.
At
last it was time for the big release. All six galgos stepped
tentatively through the gate of the quarantine area. Who
knows what goes through their little minds when they see
their adopters as one by one they are walked towards the
people excitedly waiting to help them on their way to life
in the big wide world? I am sure they sense something good
is happening.
Releases
are always emotional but although this was my 16th
it felt even more so than usual. Amongst the camera clicks
there were plenty of smiles, happy chatter and a few eyes
being wiped free of the odd tear.
Gradually
new owners and their galgos were ready to get into their
cars and head off home:
For
Lua (now Holly) home is in Berkshire with Linda and Roy
while her kennel mate, Fernando left to go to Bristol with
Sarah and family. Cicatriz (now Kite) settled into Dawn and
John’s van with some of their other dogs to set off for
Sussex. Chica (now Lorelei) delighted Hilary who was taking
her home to London. Amanda and Curro jumped in the car with
Amanda (yes, owner and galgo share the same name) and Mark
for a long drive to the good life in Norfolk.
As
my 118th homing left Precious Pets I started
looking forward to numbers 119 – 128 who are already being
reserved despite the fact they are not due to arrive in the
UK until mid-January. Homing will certainly be different
under the new “no quarantine” regime and there is a new
and exciting time ahead.
Grateful
thanks go to Paula, Steve and their dedicated staff who took
such excellent care of the galgos who passed through their
hands. Our dogs came out looking excellent and so clean and
well groomed.
My
personal thanks go to Sandy for her help and to everyone who
came along offering their support and to everyone who took
photos, some of which are included below.
